hotshot ignition

A type of ignition system for thrust augmentation in a gas turbine engine. The system consists of two injectors, one spraying fuel into one of the combustion cans, the other spraying fuel into the exhaust unit. The streak of flame initiated increases in volume progressively and ignites the fuel in the afterburner chamber. This ensures that the turbine blades are not overheated as the hot streak is ignited only briefly.
