Hypoiodous Acid HIO, a weak inorganic acid, existing only in weak aqueous solutions. It can dissociate both as an acid (HIO = H+ + IO-) and as a base (HIO = I+ + OH-). Its salts (hypoiodites) are also unstable, existing only in solutions, and are obtained by the action of iodine on alkaline solutions in the cold. |
