Web: www.byways.org/browse/byways/62295/ Description:The 2,069-mile GreatRiver Road borders the Mississippi River through the states ofMississippi, Arkansas, Iowa, Illinois, Wisconsin, and Minnesota. TheMississippi section of the byway skirts the Mississippi River in the extreme southwest corner of thestate, covering historically important terrain, including more than a thousandyears of history from Native American civilizations to remnants of theAntebellum South to Civil War battlefields and ruins. Areas of interest include: Vicksburg National Military Park, Rosemont Plantation (childhood home of Jefferson Davis), the Grand Village of the Natchez Indians, Historic Jefferson College, Natchez National Historical Park, Clark Creek Natural Area, and the Coca-Cola Museum.
Legth: 101 miles (Mississippi section); 2,069 miles (entire byway). Start/Endpoint: Byway runs along US 61 from the Issaquena County line south through Woodville to theLouisiana state line. Time to Allow: 2 hours (Mississippi section); 6 days (entire byway) Designation/Year: National Scenic Byway (2005).
