Great Ruaha

 

a river in eastern Africa, in Tanzania, the largest (left) tributary of the Rufiji. It is approximately 700 km long. The Great Ruaha originates in the mountains north of Lake Nyasa (Malawi). The upper course flows through a graben and then in a deep and narrow valley. The lower course flows across a lowland. There are sharp fluctuations in the water level. The Great Ruaha is full of rapids and is unnavigable.
