Beridze, Aleksandr Longinovich

 

Born Oct. 1 (13), 1858, in Tiflis; died 1917 in Vladikavkaz. Georgian painter and graphic artist.

Beridze studied at the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts in 1877–78 and 1881–82. From 1879 to 1880 and from 1883 to 1885 he lived in Italy. A realist, he is one of the first Georgian artists to create national types. Beridze painted many portraits of Georgian cultural leaders.
