(hī-pof'i-sin), An aqueous extract of the posterior lobe of the fresh hypophysis of cattle; contains oxytocin and vasopressin.

An obsolete term for:
(1) Any hormone produced by the posterior pituitary; 
(2) A water-soluble extract of the posterior bovine pituitary gland, which contains oxytocin and vasopressin; of little clinical or experimental utility.
