Green, Al (b. Albert Greene)

(1946– ) soul singer, songwriter; born in Forrest City, Ark. He sang in a gospel quartet with his brothers when he was nine, and at age 16 he formed the Soul Mates. In 1969 he began writing and recording for Hi Records. His hit "Tired of Being Alone" (1971) made him widely popular and was soon followed by several other hits. Returning to his gospel roots, in the late-1970s he became a church pastor and thereafter recorded and performed only religious music.
