Greenberg, Noah

(1919–66) conductor, musicologist; born in New York City. After private musical studies in the merchant marine (1944–49), he conducted choruses in New York and in 1952 founded the New York Pro Musica Antiqua, one of the pioneering early music ensembles in the U.S.A. Presenting original instrument versions of medieval and Renaissance music to worldwide acclaim, Greenberg was best known for his rediscovery and performance of The Play of Daniel (1958).
