Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission for England

established by the National Heritage Act 1983, it is the government's official adviser on all matters concerning the conservation of the built heritage and the major source of non-Lottery public funding for archaeology, conservation areas, and repairs to historic buildings and ancient monuments. It manages historic properties owned by the nation. It is charged with securing the conservation of England's historic sites, monuments, buildings and areas, promoting enjoyment of the heritage, and education. Publicly known as English Heritage.
