Hadid, Zaha

(1950–)Iraqi-British architect who established her own London-based practice in 1980. A winner of many international competitions. In 2002 Hadid won the international design competition to design Singapore’s One-North master plan; in 2004 she became the first female recipient of the Pritzker Architecture Prize; in 2005 her design won the competition for the new city casino of Basel, Switzerland. Other projects include the Science Center, Wolfsburg, Austria; the Contemporary Art Museum, Cincinnati, OH; the Center for Contemporary Arts, Rome, Italy; and the Guangzhou Opera House, Guangzhou, China.
