Established: 1910. Description:Dedicated to protecting New England's cultural and architecturalheritage. Operates 36 historic house museums in five New Englandstates. Studies and interprets New England's daily life, architecture,and decorative arts between the mid-17th and 20th centuries. Maintainsarchives and a conservation center; conducts educational programs andleads historic tours. Also sponsors a helpline for homeowners'questions about preserving and maintaining their old houses. Members: 3,000. Dues: $35/year.
