(hēl strīk), The stage in gait at which the heel of the foot or shoe first makes contact with the walking surface.

Heel contact The beginning of stance phase, at the point of heel strike there is zero reaction. Immediately after contact there is an ↑ in ground reaction, known as heel strike transient, which pre-empts the major ↑ in ground reaction forces which complete the first of the double peaks in normal stance phase.
