haemoglobinometer (ˌhiːməʊɡləʊbɪˈnɒmɪtə; ˌhɛm-) or hemoglobinometern (Medicine) an instrument used to determine the haemoglobin content of bloodEncyclopediaSeeHemoglobinometerhaemofiltration he·mo·fil·tra·tion (hē'mō-fil-trā'shŭn) A process, similar to hemodialysis, by which blood is dialyzed using ultrafiltration and simultaneous reinfusion of physiologic saline solution.
Synonym(s): haemofiltration. haemofiltration A technique similar to HAEMODIALYSIS used to remove waste products from blood in cases of kidney failure. A membrane filter is used to remove an ultrafiltrate of plasma containing undesirable small molecules in solution and this is replaced with an artificial solution containing physiological levels of the normal electrolytes. The process may be done either by continuous arteriovenous haemofiltration driven by the patient's own blood pressure, or by vein to vein haemofiltration using an extracorporeal pumping mechanism. |
