Apluda
Apluda
a genus of plants of the family Gramineae. It has one species—Apluda mutica—a perennial or annual herb with a leafed, paniculate inflorescence. The two-flowered spikelets rest in groups of three on a shortened axis and are gathered in bundles at the ends of more or less flattened twigs. The lemma of the middle spikelet is sometimes awned. A. mutica grows in the temperate, subtropical, and tropical zones of Asia, in tropical Africa, and in Australia. In the USSR it grows in southern Middle Asia along the shores of rivers, near irrigation ditches, and in moist places. It is readily eaten by cattle. A. mutica yields a thin straw suitable for weaving hats.
