The house turbine at an electric power plant is a turbine generator that supplies the plant’s own electrical energy needs. It is used to power, for example, auxiliary machinery (pumps, fans, ball mills), automatic systems, and lights at the plant. A house turbine must be highly reliable and fast starting. Present-day high-power electric power plants that are part of the USSR Integrated Electric Power Grid do not need house turbines, since all the plants in the grid protect each other against power outages.
