Hickey-Hare test Hickey-Hare test An obsolete test for diabetes insipidus, in which hypertonic saline solution is administered intravenously in combination with induced water diuresis. The test is no longer used because of the danger of congestive heart failure and because the hypertonic solution may stimulate osmotic diuresis, counteracting the vasopressin’s effect; the currently preferred diagnostic modality is a combined water-restriction-vasopressin administration test. |
