(hī′zən-bûrg′), Werner Karl 1901-1976. German physicist who was a founder of quantum mechanics. He discovered the uncertainty principle, which states that the more accurately one knows the position of a particle such as an electron, the less accurately one can know its velocity, and the more accurately one knows a particle's velocity, the less accurately one can know its position.
