Grier, Robert C. (Cooper)

(1794–1870) Supreme Court justice; born in Cumberland County, Pa. He served as president judge of the district court of Allegheny County, Pa. (1833–46) when President James Polk appointed him to the U.S. Supreme Court (1846–70). He concurred with the Court in the Dred Scott decision (1857).
