Helenus


Helenus

(hĕl`ənəs), in Greek mythology, Trojan who was gifted with prophetic powers; son of Priam and Hecuba. When Helen was given to Deiphobus after the death of Paris, Helenus in anger betrayed Troy by revealing to the Greeks that Hercules' poisoned arrows were needed to defeat the Trojans. After the fall of Troy he went to Greece. He later married Andromache and founded Bathrotus, where, in the Aeneid, he is visited by Aeneas, who seeks his advice.
