Hitra
an island in the Norwegian Sea, off the west coast of Norway, near the mouth of the Trondheimsfjorden. Hitra has an area of 564 sq km. Its hills and low mountains, which have elevations of up to 369 m, are composed primarily of diorites and are bordered by coastal plains. Pine and birch forests, heaths, peat bogs, and swamps are found on the island. There is fishing.
