Grigorii Naumovich Voitinskii
Voitinskii, Grigorii Naumovich
(pseudonym of G. N. Zarkhin). Born Apr. 5 (17), 1893, in Nevel’; died June 11, 1953, in Moscow. Soviet political figure and China scholar. Member of the CPSU from 1918.
During the Civil War, Voitinskii fought in the Far East and Siberia. From 1920 to 1927 he held a responsible position on the Executive Committee of the Comintern. As the representative of the Executive Committee, he took part in the work of the Fourth and Fifth Congresses of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the May (1924), October (1925), and July (1926) plenums of the Central Committee of the CPC. In 1926-27 he was head of the Far East Bureau of the Executive Committee of the Comintern in Shanghai. In the 1930’s, Voitinskii began teaching and doing scholarly research in Moscow; he became a professor in 1935.
