Manninen, Ilmari Justus Andreas

 

Born Sept. 2, 1894, in Vyborg; died June 14, 1935. Finnish ethnographer; follower of U. Sirelius.

From 1922 to 1929, Manninen worked in Estonia as director of the Estonian National Museum in Tartu and docent at the University of Tartu. He was director of the Ethnographic Department of the National Museum in Helsinki and docent at the University of Helsinki from 1929 to 1935. His chief works were devoted to the ethnography of the Estonians and other Finno-Ugric peoples.
