a balneological-pelotherapeutic health resort in Hungary, on Lake Balaton, 6 km from the city of Keszthely. The summers are hot, with an average July temperature of 22°C; the winters are mild, with an average January temperature of –1.7°C. The annual precipitation is approximately 750 mm. The waters of Lake Hévíz have therapeutic properties. The water temperature is 33°–35°C in the summer, and 27°–29°C in the winter. The bathing season is year-round. There is slightly radioactive peat mud. Hévíz specializes in treating disorders of the motor and support organs, the peripheral nervous system, and circulatory disturbances in the limbs caused by vein dilation. Facilities include balneological and pelotherapy clinics, bathhouses, sanatoriums, and rest homes.
