Bengbu, city and port in eastern China, in An-hwei Province, on the lower course of the Huaihe River at the point at which a railroad line crosses it. Population, 267,000 (1959; estimate). Bangbu is an important trade and transportation center; grains, salt, and coal (from the Huainan mines) are shipped out through it. There is agricultural machine-building, ship repair, and production of metal articles; and food, tobacco, and paper enterprises.
