Grishin, Evgenii Romanovich

 

Born Mar. 23, 1931. in Tula. Soviet ice skater; Honored Master of Sport (1952). Officer of the Soviet Army. Member of the CPSU since 1962.

In the 1950’s and 1960’s, Grishin was repeatedly a Soviet and world record holder and champion. At the Seventh and Eighth Winter Olympics (Cortina d’Ampezzo, Italy, 1956; Squaw Valley, California. I960), he won the 500-m and 1,500-m speed skating races. Grishin’s best times were 39.5 sec for 500 m (1963, Alma-Ata) and 2 min 8.2 sec for 1,500 m (1960, Squaw Valley). He was overall champion of Europe in 1956 at Helsinki. In the early 1950’s he was one of the best Soviet bicycle racers (on the track). He has been awarded an Order of Lenin and the Order of the Red Banner.
