Igel’strom, Konstantin Gustavovich
(also Ev-staf evich). Born May 8(19), 1799, in Malyi Shumsk, Kremenets District, Volyn’ Province; died Nov. 13 (25), 1851, in Taganrog. Member of the Russian secret society Military Friends; captain of the Lithuanian Pioneer (Sapper) Battalion.
In December 1825, Igel’strom tried to raise a rebellion among the troops of the Detached Lithuanian Corps. In April 1827 a military tribunal deprived him of his military rank and noble status and sentenced him to ten years of hard labor. He served a hard-labor term from 1828 to 1832 at the Nerchinsk mines and in Petrovskii Zavod together with the Decembrists. In 1836 he was sent as a private to the Caucasus, where he served until 1843 and retired with the rank of lieutenant. He remained under secret police surveillance and was prohibited from going to St. Petersburg and Moscow.
