Hon Gay

a city in North Vietnam. Administrative center of Quang Ninh province. Population, more than 300,000 (1974). Hon Gay is located on Ha Long Bay, an inlet of the Gulf of Tonkin of the South China Sea. A major coal port, it is connected by railroad with the ports of Cam Pha and Cu Ong and by highway with Haiphong. It is the center of the largest coalfield in the country.
