Location:Northeast corner of Oregon and western Idaho. Accessible by OR 39, 86; ID 29, 71. Nearby towns include Joseph and Enterprise, OR, and Riggins and Grangeville, ID.
Facilities:36 campground/picnicking areas, trails (819 miles), boat launch sites, scenic overlooks and drives, lookout tower.

Special Features:North America's deepest river gorge encompasses a vast and remote region with dramatic changes in elevation, terrain, climate, and vegetation. Carved by the Snake River, Hells Canyon plunges more than a mile below Oregon's west rim and 8,000 feet below He Devil Peak of Idaho's Seven Devils Mountains. No roads cross Hells Canyon's 10-mile wide expanse, and only three roads lead to the Snake River between the Hells Canyon Dam and the Oregon-Washington state line. Includes the Snake, Imnaha, and Rapid wild and scenic rivers. Hells Canyon NRA is part of Wallowa-Whitman, Nez Perce, and Payette national forests (see separate entries in this section).
