From the river's edge up to themountaintop and back down to the valley floor, the route offers the dramatic scenery of Wallowa-WhitmanNational Forest and Hells Canyon National Recreation Area. Recreational opportunities abound, including camping, fishing, rafting, hiking, bicycling, bird-watching, and cross-country skiing and snowmobiling.
Legth: 218 miles. Start/Endpoint: Byway is a loop that encircles the Wallowa Mountains, intersecting with I-84 at La Grande and Baker City. It includes portions of SR 86, FS 39, and SR 82. Time to Allow: 6 hours. Designation/Year: All-American Road (2000).
