Ice Spillway

part of a weir through which ice is passed (discharged) from the upstream side to the downstream side. It is a spillway with a concrete sill, usually with a hydraulic floodgate that closes the spillway opening. As a rule, ice spillways are located at the point where ice drift is greatest (for instance, on the concave bank of a river).
