Qazvini, Hamdallah Mostowfi

 

Born in Qazvin, 1281; died c. 1350. Iranian historian and geographer.

An important official under Khan Hulagu, Qazvini served the vizier Rashid al-Din as well. He wrote the Selected History (Ta-rikh-e gozideh, 1330), which contains a history of the Mongol ilkhans and the local Iranian dynasties, biographies of prominent individuals, and a description of the city of Qazvin. He is also the author of the geographical work Delectation of the Heart (Nuzhat al-qulub, 1340), an extremely important source for the economic history and geography of Iran and neighboring countries in the 13th and 14th centuries.
