hematopoietic malignancy

Any of the cancers that arise from unregulated clonal proliferation of hematopoietic stem cells, such as leukemia and lymphoma. In these disorders, genetically abnormal blood-forming cells (derived from precursors of granulocytes, lymphocytes, platelets, or red blood cells) reproduce in an unchecked fashion, consume nutrients, infiltrate various tissues, and replace the body's normally functioning cells.
