Location:On the northern California coast, near the cities of Arcata and Eureka.
Facilities:Visitor contact station, viewing sites, interpretive trails.
Activities:Boating, canoeing, fishing, hunting, hiking.
Special Features:One of the largest remaining eelgrass beds south of Washington, Humboldt Bay is an important spawning, nursery, and feeding area for fish and other marine life. In winter, it is not unusual for more than 100,000 birds to use the Bay as a feeding and resting spot.
Habitats: 3,700 acres of diked marshes, seasonal wetlands, salt marshes, mudflats, and open water.
Access: Open during daylight hours.
Wild life: Waterfowl, including black brant, and shorebirds, also peregrine falcon, bald eagle, brown pelican, western snowy plover, Humboldt Bay wallflower and beach layia.
