Hawkins, Erick

(1909– ) modern dancer, choreographer; born in Trinidad, Colo. He trained with the School of American Ballet and performed in the company (1935–37). After performing with Ballet Caravan, he joined the Martha Graham Company in 1938 as its first male dancer; he was briefly her husband (1948–50). He formed his own company in the early 1950s, performing abstract compositions with elaborate costuming, often in collaboration with the composer, Laura Dlugoszewski.
