Inclinometry

Inclinometry

a method of determining the basic parameters (angle and azimuth) that characterize the deformation of wells and boreholes, by means of monitoring with inclinometers, in order to plot the actual coordinates of the holes being drilled. The data from the measurement of the angle and azimuth of the hole’s distortion, as well as the depth of the shaft at the point of measurement, make it possible to plot an inclinogram, which is a projection of the hole’s axis on a horizontal plane, and a profile, which is a vertical projection on a magnetic meridian plane (latitudinal or any other type). The profile usually coincides with the plane of a geologic cross section of the deposit and passes through the hole being studied. The availability of the actual coordinates of holes being drilled makes possible the accurate determination of the points of intersection of the borehole with various parts of the geologic cross section—that is, the determination of the accuracy of drilling in a given direction.
