Industrial Center

a city that is a center of one or several branches of industry, often performing transportation functions as well. Centers of the extractive industry generally have a more restricted range of activities than centers of the manufacturing industry because the production specialization of the former is conditioned on the use of a limited range of natural resources. In the USSR and other socialist countries, industrial centers are formed during area planning of the development of productive forces.
