Kandalov, Innokentii Ivanovich

Born Jan. 21 (Feb. 2), 1891, in Eniseisk, died Sept. 30, 1962, in Moscow. Soviet hydraulic engineer. Doctor of Technical Sciences (1962) and Honored Worker in Science and Technology of the Uzbek SSR.

Kandalov graduated from the Petrograd Polytechnic Institute in 1917. From 1919 to 1927 he was deputy work superintendent for the construction of the Volkhov Hydroelectric Power Plant, and from 1927 to 1933 he was chief of hydraulic engineering work for the right bank of the Dnieper Hydropower Construction Project. Between 1933 and 1949 he was head engineer of the Chirchik and Svir’ hydropower projects, as well as of the reconstruction work on the Dnieper Hydroelectric Power Plant. In 1949 he began teaching at the Moscow Institute of Power Engineering, becoming a professor in 1952. In 1959 he became head of a subdepartment at the Moscow V. V. Kuibyshev Construction Engineering Institute. His principal works were devoted to the problems of the organization of hydraulic power construction. A recipient of the State Prize of the USSR (1954), Kandalov was awarded three Orders of Lenin, a number of other orders and various medals.
