Al- Rusayris

a city in the Sudan, in Blue Nile Province. Population, approximately 4,000. Landing on the right bank of the Blue Nile River. Railroad terminus.

Al-Rusayris is a commercial center for the surrounding region (cotton, sesame, sorghum, cattle). Gum arabic is gathered. A dam to irrigate the southern part of the al-Jazirah plain and a hydroelectric power plant are under construction (1974) 8 km upstream from the city.
