International General Assembly of Spiritualists

(religion, spiritualism, and occult)The International General Assembly of Spiritualists (IGAS) was incorporated in Buffalo, New York, in 1936. It was founded by Arthur Ford, Fred Constantine, and eight other Spiritualist ministers. Ford was the first President. Fred Jordan, a retired navy commander, was ordained by Ford in 1937 and became President of IGAS in 1938. He held that position until 1947, when he was succeeded by Jerry Higgins.

In 1946, the Declaration of Principles as given by the National Spiritualist Association of Churches was adopted. Emphasis was placed on healing, prayer, spiritual unfoldment, and psychic/mediumistic development.
