[‚in·tər¦fir·ə¦me·trik ‚hī·drə‚fōn] (engineering) A hydrophone in which pressure changes act directly or indirectly to deform an optical fiber and thus produce a phase change in light from a laser or light-emitting diode; the phase change is detected in an interferometer. Also known as fiber-optic hydrophone.
