Intercontinental Seas

seas lying between two or more continents, for example, the Mediterranean Sea, the Red Sea, and the Gulf of Mexico. Intercontinental seas are generally located within contemporary geosynclinal regions, are very deep, and often have islands. They have independent systems of currents and tides and a distinctive vertical distribution of temperature, salinity, density, and gases.
