integrated academic training pathway

integrated academic training pathway

A career pathway for junior doctors/trainees in the UK which formalises the steps, in one- and two-year increments, in becoming a clinical academician. The Integrated Academic Training Pathway (IATP) was developed in the wake of the The Walport Report, published in 2005 by a sub-committee of the UK Clinical Research Collaboration (UKCRC) and the NHS Modernising Medical Careers (MMC), which recommended initiatives for integrating the development of academic skills with each of the key stages of a clinician's career. The IATP has now been established through partnerships between Universities, local NHS Trusts and Postgraduate Deaneries.
