Inoceramidae

Inoceramidae

a family of extinct bivalve mollusks. The Inoceramidae lived in Jurassic and Cretaceous seas. Their shells are characterized by a very strong development of the prismatic layer, which makes them easily distinguishable from other groups. The shells of some of these mollusks measure as much as 1 m long. The Inoceramidae are important index fossils.
