[in ′si·chü kəm′bəs·chən] (petroleum engineering) A method of driving high-viscosity, low-gravity ore otherwise unrecoverable from a formation by setting fire to the oil sand and thereby heating the oil in the horizon to increase its mobility by reducing its viscosity.
