Interlocking Contact

a contact in electrical apparatus that is designed for switching control or signal circuits. Interlocking contacts are fitted on contactors, magnetic starters, high voltage circuit breakers, disconnecting switches and other devices. In one apparatus there are usually several interlocking contacts which close and open the controlled circuits. They are manufactured for continuous permissible currents in the range from 5 to 20 amperes; arcextinguishing chambers are not provided for interlocking contacts. Permanent magnets can be used to facilitate arc suppression.
