in·ter·mit·tent per·cus·sive ven·ti·la·tion

(IPV) (in'tĕr-mit'ĕnt pĕr-kŭs'iv ven'ti-lā'shŭn) A ventilatory technique that delivers short high-velocity bursts of respiratory gas through a full face mask at a rapid rate (80-650 cycles/min) in addition to a steady flow of gas at a physiologic level. The percussive effect dilates airways and enhances clearance of bronchial secretions.
