(kē'tō-a-dip'ik as'id), An intermediate in l-tryptophan and l-lysine catabolism; 2-ketoadipic acid accumulates in certain inherited disorders, probably because of a deficiency of one of the proteins in the α-ketoadipate dehydrogenase complex. Synonym(s): 2-oxoadipic acid, 2-oxohexanedioic acid
