International Time Bureau

the institution that coordinates the work of the national time services.

The International Time bureau analyzes and compares materials received from time and latitude services from all over the world. On the basis of this data it computes and publishes the most probable moments at which exact time signals were supplied by the radio stations of various countries, as well as instantaneous polar coordinates. It also computes and sends out to the time services preliminary indications of correction, taking into consideration the movement of the earth’s poles and the seasonal unevenness of the earth’s rotation. The bureau was formed in 1921, attached to the International Astronomical Union; it is located in Paris.
