Iniurkollegiia

Iniurkollegiia

(Private International Law Office), a specialized law office in the USSR providing counsel on matters of private international law. It was formed in 1937 under the Moscow City College of Advocates to conduct civil cases of Soviet citizens and organizations abroad and to represent foreign individuals and legal persons in civil cases in the USSR.

Iniurkollegiia conducts inheritance, pension, and divorce cases, as well as alimony proceedings. It handles cases of insurance compensation and payments and for reparation of damages. Cases arising from maritime contracts, railroad and air transport, and foreign trade transactions are also handled.

In addition, Iniurkollegiia provides legal counsel to Soviet citizens and foreigners in inquiries or searches for documents. The office can also be consulted for information about Soviet and foreign law. Iniurkollegiia protects the personal and property rights of Soviet citizens and organizations abroad through correspondents—foreign lawyers with the right, in compliance with the laws of their own country, to represent foreigners.
