infrared cirrus

infrared cirrus

Extended sources of 60–100 μm infrared emission superimposed on the infrared background radiation. Such sources were first detected by the satellite IRAS. At high galactic latitudes some of these sources are associated with clouds of atomic hydrogen containing infrared-emitting dust at a temperature of about 30 K. Others are only poorly correlated with known interstellar gas clouds and may be due to cold material in the Solar System.
